Northern Sardinia: A Photo Travel Diary

October 2024

Sardinia is now one of my new favorite places. Besides stunning scenery, the people were very friendly (even though I don’t speak Italian), and everything was surprisingly inexpensive!

October was a lovely time to visit. It’s off-season, which meant not a lot of action happening in town, but made for a very peaceful, relaxed feel. Plus, the weather was perfect!

I visited the cities of Alghero, Porto Torres, Sassari, and Bosa.

Next time, I would love to visit the Southern part of the island and check out the capital: Cagliari.

It was too far to visit this trip, as it would have been at least a 3-4 tour trip one-way!

But I felt 4 days was enough to fully explore the cities I went to, as they are all quite small with not much to do besides stroll around the charming streets and go to the beach.

Which was totally okay with me because the beaches are incredibleee.

What I Wished I Knew Before Going:

  1. Alghero was my favorite city! While I don’t regret going to the other cities (which were only about an hour away by bus), I could have stayed in Alghero the whole time.
  2. Bosa was nice to visit — charming old streets and less than an hour’s walk to Cane Malu (which was incredible!) — but I was bored after about 3 hours in the “city” (it’s more like a small town). I still recommend going, but keep in mind the city does not have much to do.
  3. Italian sweets are SWEET
  4. Prepare for the Italian siesta (someone please tell me the equivalent term??): it will be hard to find food between the hours of 3 pm – 7 pm
  5. Bring cash! While many places did accept payment by card, it seems cash is the default method to pay here.
